Tartu Model UN | TMUN 2025

Tartu Model United Nations (TMUN) is a four-day United Nations simulation focused on international topics, taking place from 5–8 December 2025 at the University of Tartu. TMUN brings together high school and university students from all over Estonia to develop diplomatic skills, deepen their understanding of international politics, and discuss global issues – from armed conflicts to just transition.

TMUN is part of the NextGen UN project run by the Estonian United Nations Association, whose goal is to bring UN-related topics closer to young people. It is the only Model UN conference in Estonia aimed at university students and, uniquely, the world’s only UN simulation held in Estonian. Alongside the Estonian-language committees, there is also an English-language committee for international participants.

Why participate?

  • Personal development – TMUN is a great environment for both academic and personal growth. The event offers an opportunity to improve your critical thinking, public speaking, and formal writing skills.
  • Experience a diplomatic environment – participants will gain an in-depth understanding of the country they represent and test themselves in debates and discussions that focus on solving international problems. This also offers insight into the working principles and procedures of the UN.
  • Networking and broadening your horizons – the event allows you to build valuable contacts with other motivated young people. In addition, sessions with UN experts and University of Tartu faculty will take place during the conference.
  • A friendly atmosphere – every evening there will be a social event, providing a fun opportunity to get to know other participants and discover the city of Tartu in a more informal setting.
  • Experience the atmosphere of the leading university in the Baltics – TMUN takes place at the University of Tartu. As the highest-ranking university in the Baltics, it offers participants a unique opportunity to engage in its academic environment. A guided tour of the university’s historic main building is also part of the programme.

Who is TMUN for?

TMUN is open to high school students in grades 10–12 and bachelor-level university students. Previous participation in Model UN conferences is an advantage but not a requirement – the most important thing is a genuine interest in international relations and societal issues.

Registration is currently open only for international participants through MyMUN.
